Fitness
Trainer
A FITNESS trainer is a person who helps
others attain their fitness goals through personalised exercise
instruction. The work includes strength training, weight management,
cardiovascular exercise, nutrition and flexibility training.
Fitness/personal trainers may be hired by clients to lose weight, tone
muscles and help them develop a training routine.
They may deliver private training sessions to clients or work in
gymnasiums. Trainers help to demonstrate the use of various exercise
machines, the benefits of each and the precautions neccessary while
exercising.
Qualifications: A Physical education (bachelor in physical education)
course followed by aerobics/martial arts/allied training can lead to a
career in fitness instruction.
Physiotherapists certified as fitness trainers would be very effective
in helping clients avoid injuries and strain while exercising.
Fitness trainer courses are offered to men and women above 18 years of
age mainly by fitness training centres, gyms and manufacturers of sports
equipment.
Placement: A heightened awareness of fitness and the availability of
home exercise machines have created a steady demand for the services of
personal trainers and fitness instructors.
