The really good display artists have a marvelous eye for detail, proportions and colour and possess a vast imagination. Creativity and practical planning are also important. Depending on where you chose to work, you would be dealing with show-window displays, shop displays, exhibitions in museums or international shows as well as many other venues.
Your skill would be used to display goods to the best advantage. Whenever a new product is launched, you might become involved in presenting the merchandise to the public in the most spectacular fashion.

Good hand skills are essential for you would be using a wide variety of tools, painting and sculpting mediums and manufacturing all kinds of objects as well as doing the lettering work, the text in the shop windows, the electrical fittings and so on. Just think of the major shop windows and shop displays at Christmas time and you will see that display artists can create fantasy worlds in relatively small spaces. They also design and manufacture intricate electrically-operated robots, trains, bobbing heads and animated puppets.

Depending on where a display artist works, this can be an extremely stimulating and exciting career. Some of the large commercial stores send their artists overseas to study continental marketing, street festivity lighting and display and exhibition techniques.

If you were lucky enough to have a display assistant, he would help you with smaller tasks while you tackled the main project. Depending on where you worked, your hours would depend on the type of display and the duration of the exhibition. Many big city display artists work at night in order to be ready for the morning rush of buyers.
