Copywriter
Copywriters must be able
to write and have extremely inventive minds. Other important qualities are
initiative, creativity, artistic talent, imagination, enthusiasm, the
ability to do research work, research previous adverts, energy, a sense of
humour, an interest in society, a good general knowledge of facts,
fashion, religion, animation, computer technology, music, history,
language, psychology, politics, a weird imagination, popular taste and a
knowledge of culture plus a general intellect which allows them to
understand or at least try to understand almost any facet of life on
earth.
Artists might be considered to be a strange breed of people but
copywriters have to make themselves part of a new breed that knows no
bounds. An interest in science-fiction and anything else that might assist
them in their work is also needed. You would have to have the energy to go
out and find facts relating to your assigned subject - whether you were
interested in it or not - and use the information in your copy.
Language skills are very important as is a knowledge and ability to write
in such as way as to capture the spoken or imaginary idioms of target
consumers. Copywriters are usually hypercritical of their own work and are
always striving to improve their skills in order to gain the attention of
the audience. When anyone watches television, they have to sit through the
commercials which can be a pleasant experience or a boring one. Some
commercials leave one wondering just what product was being advertised,
but the majority do attempt to sell the product to the public.
