Child Psychologist

Psychology is the scientific study of all forms of human and animal behaviour, sometimes concerned with the methods through which behaviour can be modified. There are also different fields; analytic psychology, clinical psychology, comparative psychology, educational psychology and experimental psychology. Patients are also cared for in hospitals and mental institutions by resident and private doctors.
There are five major fields of psychology and your working conditions would depend on what field you chose.

* Analytic Psychology is a school of thought initiated by Carl Jung after his breakaway from Sigmund Freud. In short, he believed in analysing dreams, archtypes and the collective unconscious.

* Clinical Psychology is the branch of psychology which studies and treats mental illness and retardation. Clinical Psychologists diagnose and treat emotional, social and intellectual problems. He also uses methods such as psychotherapy, behaviour therapy or group therapy.

* Comparative Psychology is the study of the similarities and differences between species.

* Educational Psychology concerns methods of helping people, in particular children, to overcome learning difficulties.

* Experimental Psychology is the scientific study of individuals, be they man or animal, and is usually concerned with perception, memory, motor skills, learning abilities, behaviour and thinking.

* Psychotechnicians and psychmetrists administer tests and are registered with the Medical and Dental Council.

* Industrial psychologists help to improve negotiation skills, help to resolve conflict, improve motivation, productivity and job satisfaction. They also administer tests and give vocational guidance.

* Research psychologists specialise in a particular area of interest such as neuro psychology. An ability to use and interpret statistics is important for the development of tests and diagnostic tools.
