Art Photographer
A professional
photographer needs excellent eyesight, an agile and inventive mind,
initiative, dedication and an artistic ability. There are many fields in
which you could specialise and each one requires special skills as well as
the ability to take clear photographs.
The optical principle of the camera was known as far back as the 9th
century when astronomers measured the daily position of the sun throughout
the year with an apparatus that was later given the Latin name, camera
obscura, meaning `dark room'. It worked on the principal that rays of
light reflected from any illuminated object will pass through a tiny hole
in a dark box and project the image of the object upside-down on a wall or
screen inside the box. Since those days, the camera has developed into an
invaluable tool not only in the world of art and the media but in most
branches of science.

As a press photographer, you would be in a position to go almost anywhere
and photograph anything which might be of interest to your employer or
yourself. In the larger companies, a press reporter usually finds the
story and instructs you on how to film it. This is sometimes a very
dangerous career as the action is sometimes violent - as in riots, bombing
incidents and so on. A magazine photographer is usually given an
assignment as is a fashion reporter and photographer. Many photographers
set up their own studios and concentrate on portraits, weddings,
graduations, functions and so on. Sports photographers cover sport for the
media. Each of the other fields of photography need special skills and you
would have to contact the relevant institutions.
