Dr. Deepak Chopra Mind and Body Guru from India

Confusion over mind body and soul ask the expert Dr. Deepak Chopra the guru of the mind body and medicine. He was born in 1947 in New Delhi, India.

Brief History

An MBBS from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1968 Dr, Deepak Chopra did his internship from a New Jersey hospital. Later on he trained as a professional practitioner for several years at The Lahey Clinic and the University of Virginia Hospital and became board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. Subsequently he taught at Tufts and Boston University Schools of Medicine, became the chief of staff at the New England Memorial Hospital. Having become a fairly successful practitioner he started his own private clinic and established a large private practice. The unhealthy lifestyle he was pursuing created certain doubts in his mind as to whether he was doing enough for the patients he was treating.

Inspiration From Ayurveda

These doubts led him to Ayurveda, the ancient science of healing from India. Dr. Chopra realized that Ayurveda was a system of health care that actually treated the whole person. It was a system whose guiding principle was that the mind exerts the deepest influence on the body. Ayurveda became his new source of inspiration and healing. Dr. Chopra can be best described as having brought a fusion between the modern medical science, and the ancient system or art of healing, Ayurveda. The modest attempt has created a respect for both forms of treatment.

Views On Business and Leaders

Of late Dr. Deepak Chopra feels that businesses have had a new paradigm shift. Earlier the purpose of a business was to make profit. Our ancient philosophy taught us profit was a bye product of the business that was essentially a service to society.

Dr Deepak Chopra feels that success in any business comes from three forms of loyalty.

Employee Loyalty                customer loyalty               investor loyalty

 · Employee Loyalty: The health of a company can be judged by the employee turnover rate. Especially true for the new dotcoms where the traffic of employees joining and leaving is very high. Just as brand building is important for a product to create loyalty among employees is also a necessary.  For greater employee loyalty the determining factor is the opportunity for personal growth. The sense of self – empowerment, and spiritual growth. More and more there is a shift in focus towards spiritual growth even in business leadership. Therefore, employee loyalty is the most important constituency.

· Customer Loyalty: if the employee is loyal the stake of the employee goes up and he will try and ensure customer loyalty.

·  Investor Loyalty: The employee and the customer together ensure investor loyalty, which is the third important constituency of a business.

Further expanding, Dr Deepak Chopra feels that Business has a mind body and a soul, which in turn has three levels of reality:

·  The eye of the flash that is physical and is more less a sensory experience or three-dimensional.

· The eye of the mind that is a deeper understanding. It is an interaction between energy and information. Matter feels Dr. Chopra is not only energy but information also.

·  The eye of the soul is the eye of business and that is the ultimate spiritual fulfillment of any business or its leader.

LEADERS as foreseen by Dr. Deepak Chopra

·  Ability to look listen

·  Make good business calculations and see how it affects us.

E: Empowerment

·  Should be self empowered and also empower those that he leads.

·  Shakti believes and its five facets has the true meaning of self empowerment.

-  Chita Shakti is a pure form of shakti that is totally independent of the  vicissitudes of life.

-  Ananda Shakti is a blissful state.

- Iksha Shakti is the value of Sankalp in Samadhi, which in turn means dhyana and dharana. In other words the intention to fulfill the intended outcome.

-  Gyan Shakti is the creativity taking quantum leaps.

-  Kriya Shakti is the yogasthana guru sharman.

A: Awareness

  • You ask yourself three questions

-          Who am I?

-          What do I want?

-          What’s my purpose?

These are important facets of awareness: congruency = self awareness

 D: Doing

  • Action oriented

·         Improbability

Dr. Deepak Chopra has redefined the meaning of a leader be it a business leader or a political one. He intertwines Karma and business and says for a good business leader sound business is the Karma of his business. What was true yesterday is even more relevant today. Today we have the technology to spread the message to a wider audience. We are all joined together to the web of life, which in turn is joined to the eco system on the whole. To gain economic freedom the ecological balance should be focused upon.

Chopra established the American Association of Ayurvedic Medicine in 1991. In 1995, he opened the Chopra Center for Well Being in La Jolla, California where he serves as educational director.
