Vastu Shastra As a Science
Experiences have confirmed
that nature, building and man's placement in it have great effect on
living, working and happiness. All are the interrelated principles of
science and building such as orientation, proportions and decoration are
shaped by the principle of cosmology and laws governing it. The science of
Vaastu provides a set of conceptual tools that can be applied in practical
ways. Vastu is the study of impact of sunrays on the earth and reads the
characteristics of house, explains its effect on the resident in a
scientific manner. The principle of Vaastu is based on the direction,
which is permanent; likewise the effect of it is also permanent. The basic
principle of vaastu is to make the lives of people happier and problem
free. Nationality, religion, cast etc. have nothing to do with the Science
of Vaastu, It is equal for one and all. Since it possesses all the
featured mentioned above and is based on the action, cause and effect and
it can most definitely be concluded that it
is a science. Here we are trying to give some of the logics on whose basis
principle of Vaastu Shastra has been formed.
Logical Background of Different Vaastu Principles.
PRINCIPLE REASON
Land With depression in the middle should be rejected and is not considered fit for human Dwellings. Land with raised portion or with depression in the middle will receive high velocity wind towards windward slope and less than average wind towards leeward side. High velocity wind might be disturbing, where as less ventilation will result in more energy consumption. Land with depression might also face problem of water logging where drainage will be a difficult task.
Land should slope down towards North, North East or East. Whereas rise towards South & South West. More open space , more windows and doors, more open Balconies and Verandahs should be provided towards East and North side than in West and South side
At about 2.30 pm day temperature is maximum. At this sun either towards south-west or towards west resulting in more solar heat gain by surface sloping towards west, south-west or south as these surfaces are normal or near normal to the direction of solar radiation. Surface sloping towards north, north-east or east are inclined to sunrays in the afternoon thus becoming less hot. These surfaces receive more heat in the morning when they are normal to sunrays. In the morning heat is tolerable because of cool ambience. Hence surface sloping towards south, south, west & west should be avoided. OR Eastern direction assumes a great significance because the sunrays of early morning emit more light and less heat hence the best. In the afternoon, sun moving towards west, throw hot infra red rays, which are dangerous to health.
Ideal shape for a building a house is either rectangular or square Every space is filled with molecules or atoms and no space is empty. These atoms fill this space in a particular order and this order changes with the shape of the container or room space. Molecular or atoms always move in a straight line and this facilitates their movement only in square or a rectangular space. On the other hand there atoms are always in motion. This is based on kinetic theory of matter. Thus in a shape such as a hexagon, triangular or any other irregular shaped space the pattern of movement of atoms will be irregular & criss cross, and this irregularly could probably have an adverse effect on the occupants of such a space.
All water sources should be placed in North Eastern side of the plot As water gets contaminated easily and morning sunrays are having ultra violet rays which helps in purification of water. Ultra violet rays is only source of vitamin D and is also produces fluorescence photographic action, which helps in purification of water by killing the bacteria.
Kitchen should be constructed
in South East corner of the house. Kitchen should be in South East Corner
because sun rises in east and its rays with south wind enter in house from
the east side. As sun moves towards west through south side and its rays,
which contains vit, D and Vit F remains for a very long time in southeast
corner. Which purifies eatables as well as bacteria's, which grow directly
through the moisture from southwest, is also killed. Hence SouthEast is
most suitable for
placing kitchen in house. OR The SE corner is the energy zone of infrared
denoted by AGNI is helpful in cooking. So this is the place for kitchen.
In evening hours the infrared rays are harmful for humans. As such there
should be heavy mass of thick & high walls, higher plinth etc to absorb
the negative energy in south and West direction. North East corner is
auspicious for pooja room. North east corner is Auspicious for Pooja room
as Pooja is done mostly in the early morning with very sheer clothes on
body, due to which early morning sun rays with good vit D content falls on
body & magnetic field of North South sides facilitates energy absorption
of body hence concentration of mind increases.One should sleep with head
towards South and feet towards North.
One should sleep facing head towards South and feet towards North because, earth magnetic field effects humans body also. Human's blood contains a large amount of Iron, so human body acts like a magnet having North Pole as Head and South Pole as feet. North Pole attracts South Pole and vice versa, where as there is repulsion on North and North Pole & South and South Pole.
Importance of Brahm Sthan (central portion of house), Rising Sun Direction.
The central open space generates air movement and there by cooling effect to avoid discomfort, providing air and light to the rooms adjoining the central court, space for house hold works etc. are its additional usages.
Land should have green cover, plantation & vegetation. Surface with green cover provides evaporative cooling in addition to shade. Green cover acts as barrier and sunrays are stopped before heating surface, thus preventing surface from heating up. Green element doesn't emit or release absorbed heat later when ambient temperature is less and also provide protection against glare in bright sun.
Open space to be left on all the four sides of plot as well as space should be provided between two adjoining buildings. Closely spaced buildings are likely to get affected by heat leakages and energy seepages from other neighboring buildings so space should be there in two buildings.
