While between Jobs
The Recruitment Industry was, is and will continue to be extremely
competitive. A lot of freshers find it hard to attract good job offers
due to their lack of relevant experience in their Industry of choice.
However, the only situation worse than searching for a job with no
experience is when you start your job search while you are between
jobs!
Resume gaps have become a common trend. A lot of working
professionals, both men and women, switch jobs frequently in an
unending search for that dream job. Whatever the reason maybe, these
regular bouts of unemployment definitely affect your track record in
the eyes of your prospective employer. While between jobs, make sure
to use this time productively as the next time you appear for an
interview or go back to work, your prospective employer will like to
know how you kept yourself busy?
There are many different things that you can do to keep yourself
occupied and to use your time productively while you are unemployed
and between jobs. Here are a few –
Join a Course – While unemployed, you can take classes in your
relevant field to upgrade your present technical / other skills and
industry knowledge. By pursuing higher studies or joining a short term
course, you can make good use of your time and grow at the same time.
Do something you always wanted to do – If there was something
you had wanted to do for a long time but could not due to lack of free
time, now is the right time to do it. You could join a hobby center,
learn to play an instrument, get involved in a community, volunteer
with an NGO, or start your very own small scale business – the options
are endless.
Part Time Consulting Positions – You could get involved in
short term projects and work part time as a freelance consultant.
Network – Use your time well in associating with people in your
own and related industries. It never hurts to make contacts with
people who complement your profession.
It is imperative to use your time constructively when you are going
through a period of unemployment as this will help you to stay
focused, balanced and positive. And not to forget how it will help you
to tackle tricky questions put forth by prospective employers in the
future.
