Public Relations (PR) |
|
Communiation is two way process… Talking about Public Relations…the work of a PR specialist is very much similar to that of a potter.Surprised??? A potter who specialises in giving a shape to a disfigured mould of damp mud, can convert the same in to a beautifully shaped vase or can give it a shape of a distorted monster. Similarly Public Relations agencies take the responsibility of shaping up the image of a company, entity or an individual. Public Relations in simple words helps an organisation and public to adapt mutually to each other. An organisation's reputation, pofitability and even its continued existence can depend on the degree to which its "targeted publics" support its goals and policies. Public relations takes many forms in an orgaisation - communications specialist, media specialists, investor relations specialist, public affairs personnel, corporate communcations, employee relations, marketing orproduct publicity , consumer service or cusomer relations - among other titles - serve as advocates for businesses, nonprofit associations, universities, hospitals, and other organizations, and build and maintain positive relationships with the public. As managers recognize the growing importance of good public relations to the success of their organizations, they increasingly rely on public relations specialists for advice on the strategy and policy of such programs. Imagine this… A very beautiful young lady walked into a party. Wearing neatly tailored business suit she walks slowly towards a group of men and women talking. One of them turns to say a hello, but she drops her gaze and moves away without speaking as she approaches one of the buffet tables. Two men moved aside. They nodded and smiled at her. She ignores the greeting and looks only at the food on the table intently examining one after another. After a while she frowns and walks away without making a choice. After a while she vanishes from the party. Eventhough she was noticed by a lot of people because of her good looks and charming face, she failed to communicate.Hence after the party she was forgotten. In a communicative society , those who fail to communicate are doomed to be forgotten. Similarly, when an organisation decides not to communicate its fate will be very much similar to that of the young lady in the party. Public Relations not
only tells an organisation's story to its public, but also helps shape
the organisation the way it performs. Compiled By - Nora Pradhan |
