IT, ITES are the biggest employers
New Delhi: The IT and ITES sector continues to be the biggest job
providers in the Indian economy, a comprehensive quarterly survey
analysing the employment trends in Indian economy said today.
Of the top 20 companies in the list of best hirers, nine are from the IT
and ITES sector, followed by four from infrastructure, two each from
pharma and manufacturing and one each from power and consumer durables,
the Ma Foi Quarterly Employment Survey for the months of October-December
said.
The survey is a quarterly study on Indian employment trends and
opportunities. It is undertaken to understand the employment activity in
the country across 18 sectors every quarter by measuring the employers'
intentions to increase or decrease the number of employees. In this
quarter the survey covered 3,300 companies across 18 sectors.
With their growing stature and expansion drive, the survey found that the
public limited companies are the front runners in job creation.
However, smaller enterprises with less than 100 employees also seem not be
far behind. The survey said they are in an aggressive hiring mode in the
last three months.
''Employment in small enterprises is expected to grow by 8 per cent in
this quarter,'' the survey said.
The hiring confidence was upbeat and total employment projections robust
due to the overall growth in the Indian economy.
The 3,295 respondents covered in the survey are in all looking at creating
90,534 jobs in the quarter, it said.
The survey found the incidence of pink slips highest in the public sector
with five PSU's featuring in the list of companies which are keen to
reduce their strength.
