Goldman Sachs to hire 1,000

BANGALORE: Global investment banking major Goldman Sachs
expects to increase the headcount at its Bangalore facility to
ramp up quickly. The financial powerhouse, which moved to a
new spacious office, has capacity to accomodate as many as
1,500 persons. Speaking to the media, Mr Edward Forst, chief
administrative officer of the company said: ”We are currently
500 persons strong and there is meaningful amount of room for
growth left.”
The 1.6 lakh square feet Bangalore facility provides a whole
host of services like knowledge management, application
development, research as well as operations which includes
treasury, equity and asset management.
Illustrating the importance of Bangalore, Mr Forst said that
while globally the firm took over 150 years to evolve to
become a leading financial institution employing over 20,000
persons, the facility at Bangalore had ramped up extremely
fast to touch 500 persons.
“Bangalore operates on a 24X7 basis alongwith the data centres
at New Jersey, London and Tokyo,” said David Simons who heads
the Bangalore facility.
Mr Forst said that the global investment bank relied heavily
on the use of technology to dominate its areas of business.
35% of the bank’s staffers are into technology and operations.
Mr Simons said that the company had a benevolent HR policy in
place which ensured that about 80% of the Bangalore staffers
had spent at least three months training overseas.
“The Bangalore facility is an ideal community. We have a
qualified pool of English-speaking professionals who work with
us. Also the technology infrastructure makes it an ideal
location for us to operate in,”Mr Forst added.
Goldman Sachs is not a stranger in the Indian financial sector
thanks to the fact that it has a 25% stake in investment bank,
Kotak Mahindra Capital Company besides another 25% stake in
Kotak Securities. |
