Nasscom for entrance test for BPO jobs
BANGALORE:If the software body Nasscom has its way,
aspirants for call center jobs will have to take up All
India common entrance test similar to entry test for most
professional courses.
NASSCOM President Kiran Karnik said that the software
industry body is working on an all India entrance test model
for job aspirants in the booming BPO industry which will
enable candidates from north eastern states or Bihar get a
fair chance of a career in cities like Bangalore and
Hyderabad.
"The idea is to evolve a IIT-JEE model of having a common
entrance test for the entire country and aspirants from the
north east or Bihar are also given a fair chance. Now most
of the recruitment is largely limited to IT centres," he
said.
India?s BPO industry growing at 50 per cent annually
currently employs over 2.5 lakh people and has exports of
USD 5.1 billion.
NASSCOM has evolved the test model based on experiments by
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala in their BPO Skills
Assessment Test (BEST), which has helped BPO firms in those
states get candidates.
Karnik said the proposed All India test by NASSCOM might put
the tests conducted by these three states redundant.
Noida, near New Delhi, is the largest BPO hub in the country
followed by Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata and
Hyderabad. |
