Indians have office sex!
India Daily - Whitehouse Station,NJ,USA
India's carnal colleagues are finally coming out of the closet. Forced to
work long hours and in close proximity, today's professionals are grabbing
pleasure wherever they can find it. It doesn''t seem to matter where they
work or what they do. Men and women from different walks of life admit
dating co-workers and eventually going to bed with them. "I worked with a
call center for eight years and know what happens there. Those on night
shifts usually end up getting physical.
One day I walked into a cubicle and saw a couple making out. I don''t
think they were worried about anybody walking in on them, not even the
boss!" says Surbhi, former process trainer at a Delhi call center. Karan,
marketing executive with a MNC, agrees work and pleasure do mix. "Dating
in office is becoming quite common. And things just move ahead from there.
You get to know people at office parties and the next thing you are
jumping into bed together," he says. Interestingly, peers rank higher than
bosses when it comes to office sex. "I had a crush on my boss but backed
out when I realised how complicated an affair like this could get. Not
only would I be accused of sleeping around for a promotion, but my boss
was likely to get into trouble as well. Things are far simpler when you
are involved with a co-worker," insists Sonal, assistant merchandiser with
an export firm. The affinity for someone from the same social group is
understandable, says well-known psychologist Dr Premlata Chawla. "When
people of nearly the same age spend so much time together, they tend to
share a lot of their thoughts and feelings. However achieving that kind of
comfort level with a person hierarchically superior to you is difficult.
Also people in the office will take more interest in your personal life if
you are dating the boss," she says. But not everybody plays by the rules.
Vivek, a senior manager with a Delhi hotel, has no regrets about having
sexual relations with his secretary. "I am happily married and have two
kids. But I have been dating my secretary for the last two years. We also
have sex. Although she has a boyfriend, we have decided to remain on good
terms even if she gets married," he claims. Just like there's no gain
without pain, PR guru and Co-Founder of Perfect Relations Dilip Cherian
warns that sexual relations at the workplace has inherent dangers.
According to him: "There's usually a strict corporate policy about such
things. Those caught in the act could lose their jobs." Things are hardly
any better in the uniformed services where the sex ratio has improved
since women began to be recruited in greater numbers. "While it's natural
for people to fall in love, unfortunately it can''t go beyond that. If
anyone is caught in an explicit act or things happen without consent, then
legal, administrative and disciplinary action is taken against the
offender or offenders," says DCP (Crime Branch) Tajinder Luthra.
