LIC has been synonymous with life insurance in India. Of the 20 policies sold, 16 are still sold by LIC. But ICICI Prudential sells one of the rest four. No small task, given that there are a dozen private insurance companies in the fray. The person largely responsible for this success is Shikha Sharma.
An IIM-A alumnus, Sharma joined ICICI, the erstwhile industrial project finance institution, in 1980 and worked her way up largely on the basis of a sound track-record of setting up greenfield ventures.
She typifies the new breed of professionals who are striving to create the
new Indian multinational.
