Star TV
Transforming Asia's media landscape
Launched in 1991 with five television channels, STAR pioneered satellite
television in Asia and in the process catalysed explosive growth in the
media industry across the entire region.
Coupled with the opening up of Asian economies, access to satellite
television redefined the viewing experience for millions. Providing more
people with more choice than ever before, STAR set new standards in
content, production and variety.
Today STAR broadcasts over 50 services in seven languages and offers a
comprehensive choice of entertainment, sports, movies, music, news and
documentaries.
Reaching more than 300 million viewers in 53 countries across Asia, STAR
is watched by approximately 100 million viewers every day.
STAR also owns the world's largest contemporary Chinese film library, with
more than 600 titles featuring superstars including Bruce Lee, Jackie
Chan, Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh.

At STAR we truly believe that people are our most valuable assets - our
stars. That is why we feel it is so important to retain and develop talent
by nurturing challenging careers, creating an exciting work environment
and providing opportunities to learn and grow.
STAR's position as Asia's media pacesetter is shaped by the dynamism,
energy and performance of its people.
STAR employs approximately 1,800 staff and has offices in Hong Kong,
India, Taiwan, Mainland China, Dubai, Singapore, Korea, the Philippines,
Pakistan, Thailand, Japan, New York and London.
The people who power STAR reflect the diversity of the company's pan-Asia
operation. In total, 26 nationalities are represented and more than 20
languages are spoken by company employees. The workforce is also young,
with an average age of 32 years.
Across Asia STAR localises its management, relying on the intimate market
knowledge and experience of local managers to spearhead and support
operations. In fact, over two-thirds of STAR executives are drawn from
markets where the company operates.
Training & Development
STAR actively invests in its workforce, providing training, career
development and performance initiatives that focus the expertise, drive
and innovation of its employees. In 2002, almost half of STAR's employees
undertook training to further develop their professional skills in courses
ranging from digital media to leadership, financial management and
corporate governance.
STAR regularly conducts surveys to stay in touch with its employees' needs
and responds with initiatives that benefit staff and contribute to the
